Family-run London haulier’s pride at national award nomination

The team at a family-run Croydon haulier have spoken of their pride at being nominated for a national award which saw them pitched against the giants of the logistics industry.

ELB Partners was nominated in the Urban Operator of the Year category at the Motor Transport Awards, the industry’s blue-riband event, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane on Wednesday, September 7.

While ELB was pipped at the post by nationwide parcel delivery firm DPD UK, managing director Peter Eason said it was a huge achievement to even make the shortlist.

ELB holds FORS Gold status, an award which judged it on vehicle safety and emissions, which it won for the eighth consecutive year in 2022.

The 52-year-old company has invested heavily in its fleet to achieve this, including additional camera technology to protect vulnerable road users.

In shortlisting Pallet-Track member ELB for the award, the judges said: “ELB has shown it understands well the challenges of operating in London, with a strict focus on safety and emissions.”
Peter said: “These are the biggest awards in the industry and it was a great team effort to get here.

“Our towns and cities are ever-more crowded, meaning the challenges of delivering goods and services in these urban environments are complex.

“Clean air zones, safety of vulnerable road users and dealing with congestion and limited kerb space are just some of the challenges we face on a daily basis.

“It’s thanks to the hard work and diligence of our team that we meet these challenges head-on every day, and I’m immensely proud of them all.

“To even get nominated for this award is massive for us. There is always next year and another chance to take on the giants!”

ELB was established in 1970 as a three-person partnership and Peter bought the business from his father George in 1985. It now employs around 60 staff and moved to a brand-new 60,000 sq. ft headquarters in Beddington Farm Road last year.
