UK freight association strengthens Policy and Compliance team

11 April, 22

The British International Freight Association (BIFA) has strengthened its Policy and Compliance team with the appointment of Igor Popovics as policy and compliance advisor with responsibility for Customs and frontier-related issues.

Prior to joining BIFA, Igor was export documents and customs declaration officer at the London Chamber of Commerce, and whilst primarily fulfilling a Customs role, he gained valuable knowledge of Rules of Origin and Carnets.

He also has hands-on experience of the freight forwarding and logistics sector, having worked for a number of freight forwarding companies since graduating from London Metropolitan University.

This experience will benefit both the association and its membership as he joins BIFA at a very challenging time for those engaged in Customs and related matters, with the new procedures, and IT systems designed to facilitate the cross-border trading elements of the UK’s exit from the EU, still being implemented.

At the same time, the programme to replace CHIEF with CDS is being rolled out and government is looking at implementing its Single Trade Window initiative.
