Schmitz Cargobull’s Smart Curtainsiders Help Alcaline’s New Delivery Service Take Off.

Kent-based international haulage firm Alcaline has invested in 10 new Schmitz Cargobull curtainsiders fitted with the manufacturer’s TrailerConnect telematics, to proactively increase uptime and improve running costs.

The intelligent system gives Alcaline increased visibility by recording the details of every journey, including monitoring key trailer components in real-time and alerting the driver to take action when necessary.

Live tracking information can also be accessed online, providing an accurate log to prove each payload has arrived safely at its destination.

TrailerConnect also increases transparency for Alcaline, by automatically alerting the operator via SMS or email if a trailer is likely to breakdown due to a brake system problem or incorrect tyre pressure and temperature.

This is crucial, as each trailer transports high-value components across Europe for customers in the aerospace industry, as well as providing road support for Alcaline’s new air freight service.

David Zaccheo, Operations Manager at Alcaline, says: “Schmitz Cargobull’s telematics system makes it easy to monitor our trailers, giving us a complete picture of the delivery chain from start to finish. We can also react quickly if there are any security issues, ensuring our customer’s products stay safe at all times.”

The new units are also equipped with VARIOS Top Technology which allows easy adjustment of the trailer roof height, enabling Alcaline to make full use of the maximum vehicle height in every European country, with quick-to-adjust fasteners on the curtains to permit adjustments for different body heights.

This additional flexibility means Alcaline’s drivers can raise the roof when extra load space is required; and then lower it back down to make the trailer as aerodynamic as possible when transporting more compact cargo, for maximum fuel efficiency.

A sliding roof allows the option of time-saving crane loading and unloading of bulky payloads through the roof, in addition to regular loading options through the side curtains or rear doors.

For all maintenance requirements, Alcaline will benefit from the back-up support provided by Schmitz Cargobull’s authorised network of 1,700 workshops located across the UK and in Europe.
