From 1st March 2015, Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal will expand its intermodal network by adding rail shuttle services to Taulov and Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Samskip Rail Terminal in Duisburg already handles a large number of rail shuttles to and from Scandinavia. The new shuttle running between Duisburg and Taulov into Copenhagen will enhance connections to customers in Denmark. Five departures a week northbound and southbound will directly connect Taulov and Copenhagen to the Duisburg region.
Five departures a week northbound and southbound will directly connect Taulov and Copenhagen to the Duisburg region. From here fast connections can be made by road to Germany and Benelux. In addition, France and Spain, as well as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy and Turkey are connected by rail and shortsea.
Traction covering the new connection is being provided by DB Schenker, augmenting its services for other corridors in the Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal network that include Sweden and Italy.
The shuttle is open to all types of intermodal loading units such as 45ft containers, 13.6m (mega) trailers, reefers, tank containers and bulk containers. The train will offer the capacity for 42 units and an A-B transit for both Taulov and Copenhagen. Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal expects to increase the frequency to six departures per week in the near future.
“By starting up this new block train, we are delivering the fastest and most frequent connection between the Ruhr area and Denmark,” says Johan Logtenberg, MD of Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal. “The service will have a positive impact on the environment, while the market will benefit from the higher payloads and avoiding the German Maut”.
