In just six months’ time, an Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will come into force in London. And 18 months from now, it will expand for trucks and buses. At the same time, Transport for London will introduce the wholly new Direct Vision Standard for all trucks in Greater London.

If your business operates commercial vehicles in and around London, make sure you understand how the impending new rules will impact your company by attending FTA’s Transport Manager event. The one-day event, open to representatives of any organisation operating commercial vehicles, will be held at The Oval, London on 21 November 2018, sponsored by Bridgestone Tyres.

Christopher Snelling , Head of UK Policy, FTA commented:

“The arrival of the ULEZ in six months leaves little time for operators to achieve compliance. The Greater London requirement in 2020, and especially the Direct Vision Standard coming in at the same time, will massively impact many operators. To assist operators as best we can, FTA will be holding a session at its Transport Manager conference to offer advice on how to prepare for and cope with the effects of the schemes.

“Representing over 17,000 businesses in the logistics sector, FTA speaks on behalf of the industry and has voiced its concern that the new scheme will unfairly penalise small businesses, many of whom do not have the resources available to quickly upgrade their fleets.”

Held at ten venues across the country, the session, which is part of the FTA’s Transport Manager one day conferences, will also cover Clean Air Zones. Also sponsored by Brigade Electronics and Microlise, the conference series offers a unique insight into issues relevant to those using vehicles as part of their daily work and includes expert advice and guidance from leading industry speakers. It is the ideal way for anyone running a truck or van fleet, however large or small and whatever their industry, to ensure they are up-to-date on the latest developments. Other topics to be covered in the conference include the DVSA’s Earned Recognition scheme, lowering emissions, Brexit, managing your maintenance provider, smart tachographs and much more.

Efficient logistics is vital to keep Britain trading, directly having an impact on more than seven million people employed in the making, selling and moving of goods. With Brexit, new technology and other disruptive forces driving change in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK plc. A champion and challenger, FTA speaks to Government with one voice on behalf of the whole sector, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers.
