South Yorkshire-based transport provider Pass Logistics has marked its move to operating its own vehicles by taking delivery of two Mercedes-Benz rigid vehicles from Ryder, a leading independent provider of commercial vehicle contract hire, rental, and maintenance services.
The 26-tonne curtain-side Actros vehicles with sleeper cabs have been supplied in Pass Logistics brand colours.
Ryder has worked closely with Pass Logistics to ensure the firm had a smooth and seamless transition from subcontracting out its transport provision to running its first vehicles under its newly gained operator licence (O-licence).
Adrian Sullivan, owner and founder of Pass Logistics, commented: “I’ve been extremely pleased with the whole package Ryder put together for us. The Ryder national equipment director gave us great advice from the off, and has helped us get the right vehicles and the right package to suit our needs.”
A key aspect of the package developed for Pass Logistics was Ryder’s unique Collision Damage Reducer (CDR) vehicle protection cover. An extension of Ryder’s own motor fleet insurance, the CDR cover gives Ryder customers peace of mind that the insurance of the trucks is taken care of, and also includes a number of exclusive benefits, including cover for the full contract value of the vehicle and not just the market value for lease units.
Based at Pass Logistics’ new warehouse and operating centre in Harworth, Doncaster, the Mercedes-Benz rigid vehicles are already averaging 250 miles a day, delivering to customers across the country.
“We’re using the Ryder vehicles to service existing contracts, including a well-known piping manufacturer and a large 3PL. We used to subcontract the transport provision for these contracts, but are now able to service the deliveries in-house with our new vehicles,” explained Sullivan.
From humble beginnings in 2017 offering local deliveries with just one van, Sullivan has grown the business into a full transport and logistics operation with a customer-base of established companies, ranging from manufacturers and 3PLs, to electrical wholesalers and construction companies.
“Last year I realised we were at the point where it was time to get a transport manager and apply for our own O-licence. It’s been an amazing journey, growing the business from when I started out on my own to now having 15 staff, two warehouses and our own 26-tonne rigid trucks out on the road, courtesy of Ryder,” said Sullivan.
In noting that Pass Logistics was applying for its first O-licence, Ryder national equipment director Steve Williams contacted the company to see how Ryder could best support the company.
“It’s been a pleasure for Ryder to be part of this critical stage in the growth of Pass Logistics, and to help them get their first trucks out on the road. Being able to supply the vehicles with a full livery, and our unique insurance offering means Pass Logistics can carry on doing what they do best – delivering goods to customers up and down the country,” said Williams.
Sullivan concluded: “It always felt that Ryder was trying to get the best deal for us. It’s been a great experience all round.”
