The Rhenus Group has increased the storage capacity at its Meerane site in Saxony to a total of 45,000 square metres. On 25 September, the logistics service provider celebrated the opening of its new assembly and storage warehouse in the presence of guests from business and politics. The multiuser facility serves customers from a variety of industries, including the automotive and retail sectors, as well as growing online markets.

The new 20,000 square metre hall was built by metaWERK Meerane GmbH. It will provide Rhenus with 35,500 additional pallet spaces. In addition, Rhenus has an option for an additional 30,000 square metres of storage space.

“Our capacities were almost used up and inquiries from our customers were rising. We are pleased that we have now created the conditions to move forward with our customers – especially since the plant’s facilities are unique in the region,” said Heiko Nowak, member of the Rhenus Warehousing Solutions management board and managing director of the Eastern German region. The new building is not only designed for classic goods, but can also store Water Pollution Class 3 hazardous materials.

“From our location in Meerane, which is conveniently located near Highway 4 and in the border triangle between Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany, we can reach many customers in the region and beyond – from dealers to suppliers to producers,” adds Frank Frenzel, Branch Manager of Rhenus Warehousing Solutions in Meerane.

In addition to classic warehouse logistics services, Rhenus also offers valueadded services such as factory supply and waste disposal, order picking, quality checks, return processing, sequencing, packaging and customs clearance.
