A colleague at DB Schenker Rail UK has been honoured for her performance at a prestigious reception at the House of Lords.
Kate Turner, a former apprentice who went on to become the youngest ever manager at DB Schenker Rail UK at just 19, attended a ‘Celebration of Apprentices’ held by the West Nottinghamshire College Group in the historic building’s Cholmondeley Room on Wednesday 15th July. The ceremony saw almost 30 outstanding apprentices receive awards and formal congratulations in front of their proud families and employers. They were selected from the college group’s crop of 11,000 apprentices in recognition of their talent, dedication and contribution to their workplace.
The award is another achievement for Kate, who completed a successful apprenticeship in Advanced Management before being appointed as Rail Solutions Manager in 2013. She was also recently short-listed in the ‘Rising Star’ category at the 2015 Women in Logistics Awards. The high-profile event at the House of Lords was hosted by Professor Lord Patel of Bradford OBE, who joined principal and chief executive Dame Asha Khemka DBE, Sherwood MP Mark Spencer and Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero in presenting engraved glass trophies and certificates to the award-winners.
Dame Asha Khemka, said:
“It is always a tremendous honour to congratulate our latest star apprentices in the truly inspirational House of Lords while also celebrating our work with employers to provide the skills and talent for their business to flourish.”
Kate Turner, Rail Solutions Manager, said:
“I was honoured to receive the award and be recognised for the work that I completed during my apprenticeship. I look forward to developing my career in rail in the future and believe that my apprenticeship at DB Schenker Rail UK provided me with the perfect start.”
Josie Pugsley, Professional Development Manager at DB Schenker Rail UK who attended the awards with Kate, said:
“We are incredibly proud of Kate, she has made an outstanding contribution to our organisation from day one and we are delighted that her achievements have been further recognised through this award.”
