ABP South Wales has invested £400,000 to increase the amount of high-quality open storage space available to customers at its Port of Cardiff.
The investment will increase the amount of storage available to port customers by 13,000 sq ft. It covers the redevelopment and resurfacing of a quayside area on North Side, Queen Alexandra Dock.
The transit storage area will be used to accommodate growing volumes of timber, steel, and dry bulk cargoes, in order to meet customer demand.
In 2017, over 93,000 cubic metres of timber and 81,000 tonnes of steel were discharged by ABP South Wales stevedores on behalf of port customers at Cardiff.
Ralph Windeatt, Head of Commercial, ABP South Wales, said: “Due to its location and specialist handling facilities, the port of Cardiff is a key asset to both local and national industrial trade.”
“The new storage area will mainly be utilised by customers that import cargo related to the construction sector across Wales, The Midlands, and South West England. We pride ourselves on working closely with our customers to ensure we are providing them with the space and resources they need to continually grow their businesses.”
The port of Cardiff primarily handles, timber, steel, liquid bulks, and dry bulks. Since 2016, ABP South Wales have invested over £19 million into port infrastructure and equipment at the port.
