Picavi Cockpit Simplifies Controls For Large Groups Of Smart Glasses.

Picavi, the leading provider of the pick-by-vision solution for picking operations, presented its new product known as “Cockpit” at the LogiMAT intralogistics trade fair in Stuttgart. This innovation enables users to optimize the initialization of the pick-by-vision solution on the smart glasses and the process of updating a large number of glasses that are in use. The new development also makes it possible to transfer the content displayed by the glasses to any screen – for example, during training sessions for warehouse workers.

“Like any other digital product, our pick-by-vision solution is subject to an ongoing process of adaptation. We’ve used Picavi Cockpit to make the smart glasses application even more customer-friendly,” says Carsten Funke, Picavi Partner and Chief Sales Officer, summarizing the innovation that was presented in Stuttgart. “We’ll particularly be able to reduce the rollout and support costs even more in the future,” Carsten Funke adds.

In addition to introducing many minor improvements for handling large numbers of smart glasses, the major focus of Picavi Cockpit is on three new functions. Firstly, the smart glasses can now be initialized using a one-scan setup feature. Secondly, it is possible to update the complete range of smart glasses “over the air” from now on – i.e. wirelessly. Thirdly, the content displayed by the classes can now be transferred to large screens so that several people can monitor how to work with the glasses and interact with the menu, all at the same time.

Picavi will make this IT tool available to its clients – more than 60 around the world – in the near future. As a result, new purchasers or newly hired employees at existing customers can complete what is already the rapid familiarization process to learn how the smart glasses work through the so-called screen casting procedure in training sessions that involve fairly large numbers of people; this therefore reduces the overall time required for the learning phase even further.

The Picavi customer, Gebr. Heinemann, was able to explain to listeners at the LogiMAT trade fair how the pick-by-vision solution from Picavi accelerates picking and also reduces error rates. The long-standing wholesaler and retailer has been able to achieve savings in time in its picking operations at its shelf storage system in the incoming goods area, in comparison to previous systems.

Following the presentation of Picavi Cockpit at the LogiMAT in Stuttgart, the company will be presenting this innovation at two other trade shows during the spring of 2019: Picavi will be attending both the ProMAT in Chicago (8 – 11 April) and the “transport logistic” exhibition in Munich (3 – 6 June).

The pick-by-vision solution provided by Picavi makes it possible to visually manage the picking process for goods in intralogistics in a consistent manner. The use of this innovation maximizes productivity at warehouses and minimizes error rates. When wearing the smart glasses, warehouse workers have both hands free for their primary task, i.e. picking goods.

Picavi was founded in 2013 and has been offering its pick-by-vision solution to the warehouse sector as a marketable product since 2015. Numerous, large-scale corporations with international operations from a wide variety of sectors already make use of Picavi products in their daily business. An extensive network of service, integration, technology and sales partners supports the work of the company’s 30 employees. The firm has its headquarters in Herzogenrath in the Aachen urban region.

This revolutionary approach to organizing picking has attracted a number of awards, including the IT Innovation Prize in the “Industry and Logistics” category presented by the Initiative Mittelstand Association in 2016. As a member of the German Logistics Association (BVL) and other sector organizations, the logistics specialist forms an integral part of the dialog process in intralogistics.
