Leading commercial vehicle specialist North East Truck & Van Limited has undergone a corporate restructure to further its aim of ensuring proactive succession planning to safeguard its future and drive the Company forward.
Following over 30 years of tireless service, Sandy McDonald is stepping down from his role as Managing Director and handing the reins to his son John. To assist a smooth transition, Sandy will stay on as Chairman.
John joined the Company in 2014 following a career in accountancy and over the previous seven years, John has fulfilled various roles in the Company including Financial Analyst and Finance Director before now taking on the challenge of Managing Director.
Speaking about the changes in Company structure, John commented “It is with immense pride that I will be taking over this position from my father. Sandy will continue to be involved in the Company in his role of Chairman, to offer support and help us continue to deliver our high levels of service and Company values”. He added, “My main aim is to continue to build upon our successes, ensuring the company continues to evolve to meet the demands of our loyal and valued customers. There are a lot of factors going to affect our industry in the coming years, be it alternative fuels, labour shortages or changes in the wider economic climate and it is our role to be here and ready to support our customers through those changes, keeping their vehicles on the road and their businesses moving.”.
In the lead-up to these changes, a leading industry publication has recognised Sandy for his dedication to the automotive industry. As part of the recent Transport News Breakfast Rewards, held at the Tip-Ex convention in Harrogate, he received the Industry Lifetime Achievement Award. Sandy commented “I have been singularly fortunate in my career to have genuinely loved every minute of it, however the time is now right to take something of a step back. The past seven years working alongside John has been a real highlight for me and I am incredibly proud to now be passing the role of Managing Director on to John. I will continue in my position as Chairman to work alongside John, and the rest of the Board to support, encourage and guide the business, but all operational matters will now fall to John and the Board, and I look forward to seeing how the Company grows and develops under his leadership.”.
