Gove to speak at Logistics UK Brexit conference

With 42 days to go until the end of the Transition Period before the UK leaves the EU, logistics businesses are working hard to prepare for the new trading relationship. To provide up to the minute information about the political situation, and guidance for those businesses trading with the EU, The Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster has today (20 November 2020) been announced as the keynote speaker at Logistics UK’s upcoming “Get Ready for Brexit” virtual conference.

To be held on a state-of-the-art online platform, the half day event on 25 November 2020 will help hauliers understand what they need to do to be ready to operate effectively from 1 January 2021. In addition to Mr Gove’s keynote speech, speakers at the event will provide practical advice on all the key issues which could affect hauliers moving goods to and from Europe via a combination of presentations, panel sessions and group discussion. These will include customs controls and procedures, GVMS and other new IT systems, traffic management in Kent, and trade to and from GB and Northern Ireland.

“At Logistics UK, we have been working closely with Mr Gove and his team for many months,” says David Wells, Chief Executive of Logistics UK, “to ensure that the concerns of the logistics sector have been taken into account as the country forges a new trading relationship with the EU. His presence at this conference acknowledges the work which we have done with government to help our members prepare for the new business processes that will be in place from 1 January 2021. We look forward to hearing what he has to say, and any guidance he can provide for members as we approach the end of the year.

“Around 200,000 UK businesses currently trade with Europe, and it is vital that their supply chains are protected, to ensure the future prosperity of UK PLC. The clock may be running down, but there is still time for businesses across the supply chain to prepare for the new trading situation, and help to smooth the future passage of goods and services with our largest trading partner from the start of the New Year.”

Places at the Get Ready for Brexit event can be booked now, priced £155 + VAT for Logistics UK members / £195 + VAT for non-members here: https://logistics.org.uk/brexit-conferencePR

And for those unable to attend the event, Mr Wells has reassurance for those businesses still needing guidance to prepare for their new working relationship with the EU: “Help is available, with a wealth of information available at www.gov.uk and via business groups like Logistics UK through our Brexit hub (https://logistics.org.uk/logisticsuk-brexit-advice ) and our Member Advice Centre. Logistics UK is here to help – don’t leave it to the last minute!”

Logistics UK (formerly FTA) is one of the UK’s leading business groups, representing the logistics sector which is vital to keeping the UK trading. Logistics businesses also employ more than seven million people involved in the making, selling and moving of goods. With COVID-19, Brexit, new technology and other disruptive forces driving change in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK plc. Logistics UK supports, shapes and stands up for safe and efficient logistics, and is the only business group which represents the whole industry, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers whose businesses depend on the efficient movement of goods.
