Forto appoints Alex Mallet Executive Vice President of Engineering

Forto, a leading provider of digitized freight forwarding and supply chain solutions, today announced the appointment of Alex Mallet as Executive Vice President of Engineering. The appointment comes as the business continues to expand its operations internationally, bringing its digital approach to logistics to customers in new markets.

Forto is using its digital platform to simplify interactions, remove process friction, and increase visibility around the supply chain — in turn empowering customers to make smarter commercial decisions. It strives to make the movement of goods around the globe simpler and more certain, while simultaneously helping the logistics industry become more sustainable.

Mallet joins Forto after more than 10 years running software development teams at Amazon, most recently serving as Director of Software Development in Amazon’s Berlin office, supervising teams working on the international expansion of Amazon’s e-commerce business. At Forto, Mallet will lead the company’s team of engineers and scientists building the company’s logistics technology platform.

“The digitization of logistics is a perfect example of intersection of the digital and physical worlds,” commented Mallet. “What seems like a simple process of moving goods from point A to B, actually requires a complex orchestration of multiple parts. Smart technology has the power to address this inherent complexity and truly transform the entire experience – whether it’s improving efficiency and lowering costs by automating and eliminating repetitive tasks, providing customers with greater visibility into the status of their shipments, or using sophisticated data analysis to drive better, more proactive decision-making.”

“Alex has years of experience scaling global software services, using technology to streamline operational processes, and applying machine learning to optimize business outputs. This experience, combined with his customer focus and his passion for applying technology to solve customer problems, makes him a powerful addition to the Forto team as we move forward in our next phase of growth,” commented Erik Muttersbach, Forto CTO and Co-Founder.

While at Amazon, Mallet supervised a global unit of more than 400 specialists across engineering, science, product management, and operations. He spearheaded a variety of initiatives focused on product localization and globalization, search, inventory management, translation, and partner selling services. Mallet also held management positions within Amazon’s AWS division, working on the EC2, and AWS Relational Database services. Prior to joining Amazon, Mallet spent more than 12 years with Microsoft serving in a variety of software engineering and management roles across a wide spectrum of Microsoft products and services.
