Fargo Systems, the UK’s leading software provider to the intermodal transport industry, has launched a new software apprenticeship programme in a strategic move to invest in the next generation of IT talent.

The successful candidate Hamish Marwick, 17, has begun a 18-month work-based BTEC Level 3 qualification in Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals.

The logistics software specialist has partnered with Suffolk New College to deliver the apprenticeship programme, who also provides weekly educational support to Hamish.

Steve Collins, Fargo Systems Director said: “We are very excited to launch our first apprenticeship programme. We are working in partnership with an innovative education provider to create an apprenticeship scheme that enables people to turn their passion for technology into a potential career.”

Hamish’s ‘learn-on-the-job’ role will incorporate key skills such as SQL, independent problem solving and experience across a wide range of support and development projects.

Steve Collins concludes: “We are keen to develop the next generation of talent in the company and it underlines our commitment to recruiting highly-motivated young people from the local area.”

Formed in 2002, Fargo Systems is recognised for its easy to use and flexible suite of logistics software solutions, with its unique TOPS software managing an estimated four million container moves each year.
