Conference to unlock UK artificial intelligence potential

23 May, 22

The UK has the potential to be the leading artificial intelligence powerhouse in Europe, with huge opportunities to drive technology forward in its manufacturing businesses, delegates at a high-powered conference at the Manufacturing Technology Centre will be told.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning are increasingly well-funded in the UK and with more early stage technology investment can make huge strides in productivity and competitiveness, according to AI experts at the MTC.

The MTC will be hosting the Artificial Intelligence for Manufacturing 2022 conference on June 21. The free-to-attend conference will bring together industry, academia and research institutions to explore how to take AI and machine learning forward.

Addressing the conference will be high-level technologists and industrialists who are actively deploying AI in their businesses and are taking the technology forward in their companies and supply chains.

Delegates at the conference, which is now an annual event, will hear keynote presentations from industry experts, be able to take part in live Q&A panel discussions or join educational workshops and technology demonstrations.

Nandini Chakravorti, associate director at the MTC said, “This is a great opportunity to delve into the world of artificial intelligence and understand how it can help manufacturing businesses in many ways. There is considerable AI resource in the UK, powered by the country’s top talent, and that presents opportunities to propel that towards manufacturing.”

She added, “Digital technologies are rapidly transforming how we make products faster, cheaper and better. With the proper use of artificial intelligence, we can compete globally at pace and on price.”

The conference builds on Artificial Intelligence for Manufacturing 2021, which was a hybrid event. Topics this year include the future of artificial intelligence, becoming data ready, AI for industrial applications, maintenance and security, and the benefits of AI for net-zero.

The MTC was founded by the University of Birmingham, Loughborough University, the University of Nottingham and TWI Ltd. The MTC’s industrial members include some of the UK’s major global manufacturers.

The MTC aims to provide a competitive environment to bridge the gap between university-based research and the development of innovative manufacturing solutions, in line with the Government’s manufacturing strategy. The MTC is part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, supported by Innovate UK.
