FTA, the business organisation representing the logistics sector, has recognised eight years of support for its Logistics Emissions Reduction Scheme (LERS) by Bridgestone Tyres and ExxonMobil by presenting a plaque to representatives of both organisations at Multimodal 2019.

As a free-to-join industry initiative designed to help members record, reduce and report emissions, LERS is reliant upon its industry partners for support, as Rebecca Kite,, FTA’s Environment Policy Manager, explained:

“The 135 LERS members, which operate over 88,000 commercial vehicles, are changing the face of the logistics sector. Average emissions from our members are close to 13 per cent lower per vehicle km than the industry average, showcasing what can be achieved with the right determination and guidance. We are so grateful to Bridgestone Tyres and ExxonMobil for their continued support over the years; we look forward to seeing LERS membership grow even further over the coming years with their assistance.”

Efficient logistics is vital to keep Britain trading, directly having an impact on more than seven million people employed in the making, selling and moving of goods. With Brexit, new technology and other disruptive forces driving change in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK plc. A champion and challenger, FTA speaks to Government with one voice on behalf of the whole sector, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers.
