Two leading industry innovators are celebrating a major milestone. For 21 years Tyron Runflat and Hometyre have worked together to champion tyre safety and keep drivers safer on the roads in even the most remote areas of the county.

Tyron Runflat the innovative manufacturer of the Tyron Multi-Band, is marking the 21-year milestone of its partnership with Hometyre, the UK’s leading mobile tyre fitting network.

Working extensively within the defence, emergency services, commercial, leisure and civilian vehicle industries around the world, Tyron Runflat is known for its innovative tyre safety solutions, including the Tyron Multi-Band. This product keeps the tyre attached to the wheel in the event of a blowout or puncture, helping drivers reach a place of safety, which is even more important in remote areas and four-lane motorways with limited safety areas.

In the UK, Hometyre dominates Tyron’s mobile fitting network, installing hundreds of Tyron’s life-saving bands each year.

From riot vans and high-speed response cars to security vehicles and caravans, Hometyre’s expertise ensures Tyron products are fitted with precision and care—recently installing over 400 bands onto specialist blue-light fleet vehicles alone.

Commenting on the importance of its professional dealer network, Peter Simson, Director at Tyron Runflat, said: “The only thing more important for tyre safety, especially if you live a long way from your nearest garage, than having Tyron bands fitted on vehicles is having the band professionally fitted. In order for our bands to provide the lifesaving solution they are designed to, users must guarantee that they are fitted correctly to each wheel. This is where Hometyre come in to ensure the job is done correctly. We are proud to have worked with Hometyre for over two decades, transforming tyre safety one wheel at a time.
“This established partnership has ensured our bands are fitted across a large number of UK blue light service vehicles and continues to help us support emergency fleets nationwide.”

As this partnership comes of age, it ensures that from the weekend caravanner to high-priority fleet operators, road users can trust their Tyron Multi-Bands are installed safely.

One of the longest standing sectors for Tyron and Hometyre is the leisure vehicle market, providing complete peace of mind to UK holidaymakers.

Louise Cowlishaw, Director at Hometyre, explained: “Once a customer fits Tyron Bands, they rarely look back. They're a true long-term investment—often transferable when changing vehicles. At Hometyre, we see first-hand the consequences of poor tyre maintenance. A blowout at speed, especially with a towed vehicle, can be catastrophic. We’re proud to work alongside Tyron and organisations like TyreSafe to promote safety and awareness nationwide.”

According to the latest data from the Driver and Vehicles Standards Agency (DVSA), 2.15 million vehicles failed their MOT on tyre defects in 2023-24, which is up from 2 million the previous year.

Peter added: “It is alarming to see that many drivers continue to ignore the potentially catastrophic outcomes of poor tyre maintenance. People underestimate the possibilities of fatal road accidents due to tyres and don’t realise that all it takes is a puncture for the tyre to blow, resulting in a loss of control for the driver, or best-case scenario being stranded by the roadside until help arrives.
“The risks are amplified if the vehicle is a leisure vehicle as the weight and lack of control is increased. On average it takes approximately 15 minutes to fit a Tyron band to a wheel which means a vehicle can have all wheels fitted within an hour. For us, this is a real no brainer, and it should be for all road users.
“We’re hoping by shining a light on the simple steps people can take to get Tyron bands fitted and showing them directly where to go, we can continue our mission to raise awareness and create safer driving conditions for all road users.”

Established in 2001, Tyron Runflat is focused on raising awareness and educating all road users. Through partnerships with mobile fitters, it hopes to increase public awareness and tackle the challenges concerning daily tyre maintenance.
