A family-run South West haulage specialist is celebrating 70 years in business with an anniversary vehicle decked out in the firm’s original livery from 1954.

Massey Wilcox Transport, which is based in Bristol and Radstock, Somerset celebrates its milestone anniversary last month (May) and has put a brand-new Scania R450 on the road in the same livery that was used 70 years ago.

The company was set up by Douglas Massey and Harry Wilcox and remains in the Wilcox family under the stewardship of current managing director, Robert Wilcox.

The company is no stranger to celebrating major anniversaries as it also rolled out special liveries for its 40th, 50th and 60th years in business.

Massey Wilcox specialises in general transport activities, storage and warehousing and nationwide pallet distribution through its shareholder membership of the Wolverhampton-based Pallet-Track network.

Chris Stanford, director at Massey Wilcox, said: “Very few hauliers can still say they have family roots, so it’s definitely something we want to celebrate. It’s always a nice selling point with customers as they know they’re receiving the personal touch when they deal with us.

“We did a 60th anniversary logo in silver and a 50th anniversary in gold, and this time we’re going all the way back to our original livery from 1954.”

Chris said Massey Wilcox was continuing to thrive in a sector which has had several well-documented challenges of late.

He said: “We continue to invest in growth and develop at the request of our customers. We have a strong balance sheet, thanks in no small part to the loyal customers who have been with us for decades.

“We have a modern fleet of Euro6 vehicles, LED lighting in our warehouses and as many touches to make us as environmentally friendly as possible.

“We understand that we need to look at efficiencies, route planning and the most direct routes wherever possible, to keep mileage travelled from one customer to another at a minimum.

“Our work with Pallet-Track complements this really well, as it allows our customers to move absolutely anything on a pallet across England, Scotland and Ireland using our dedicated network.”

Stuart Godman, chief executive of Pallet-Track, said: “It’s fantastic to see Massey Wilcox continuing to thrive in business and celebrating this significant milestone.

“As a business they are both forward-thinking and rightfully proud of their heritage. Here’s to the next 70 years!”
