Like-minded aviation initiatives unite to tackle skills shortages

The Aviation Skills Retention Platform (ASRP) has further bolstered its offering through ELATE, an online community and career support platform established by former British Airways aircrew during lockdown.

Launched in February this year, the ASRP is a Government-funded website created to help aviation workers showcase their experience and develop their expertise while helping aviation employers find the skills they need; aiding redeployment and recruitment, skills retention and development activities across the sector.

Meanwhile, ELATE, which was established in November 2020 last year, is aimed at championing the high standards of work, skillsets and experience of aircrew and airline staff to potential employers.

Both platforms are united in their vision to help aviation sector staff, who may have lost their jobs due to the pandemic or are looking for new work and want to stay within the industry, stand out to employers. At the same time, the sites are also aimed at helping make it easier for aviation employers to identify the right candidates for their roles.

Richard Smith, director of ASRP, explains: “This is great news and builds upon the synergies that we both have and unites us in helping aviation sector employers and candidates bounce back from the pandemic.

“Employers now have an even greater wealth of candidates to reach out to and candidates have an even larger pool of job vacancies to apply for, which will help make sure their valuable talent stays within the aviation industry.”

The ELATE-ASRP relationship adds another dimension to the employment support currently available to aviation staff in the form of CV writing support, bespoke coaching and interview preparation, as well as access to a whole host of career development resources.

Mark Jukes, co-founder of ELATE, said: “Joining forces with the ASRP has allowed us to further enhance our offering while enabling the ASRP to do the same.

“We have established a uniquely talented and vibrant community of former airline industry staff who, as we all know, have been hit very hard by the pandemic. Our mission, from day one, has been to support these friends and former colleagues as much as we possibly can.

“This partnership will enable us to introduce our community to the ASRP, so that they can both engage with, and benefit from, the many opportunities the platform has to offer”.

The number of employers and candidates registered on the ASRP is increasing week-on-week. So far, 80 companies, including Easyjet, TUI and Heathrow Airport, and over 700 candidates have signed up.
