Ambitious global logistics operator Europa Worldwide Group, which has just announced its annual financial results showcasing record turnover and profit, is celebrating after two Europa employees passed their driving apprenticeships with flying colours, prompting the business to run the pilot programme for a second year.
Europa’s Warehouse to Wheels initiative was launched last year, inviting ambitious and sparky current employees to become qualified drivers of large goods vehicles.
Attracted by the offer, warehouse operatives Manjot Singh-Bassi, aged 28 and Aaron Golding, aged 28 set out to complete the programme, which is supported by training provider Seetec and aims to tackle the well-publicised driver shortage within the industry.
Having worked hard to achieve their qualifications over the last year, Manjot and Aaron have both just passed the programme with flying colours, achieving good marks in their HGV Class 2 Theory and Driving tests. They have both found the programme to be well structured and directed and are now all set to embark on their new careers with the support of Europa’s highly experienced team of drivers.
Dan Cook, Operations Director for Europa Road
, said:
“Congratulations are in order for Manjot and Aaron for investing so much time, effort and dedication in their apprenticeships – their hard work has certainly paid off! Given the pressing need for a new wave of keen, talented and well-trained drivers, we’re thrilled with how the programme has delivered, so much so that we plan to offer it again next year.
“With the well-documented driver shortage gripping our industry, now is the time to be investing in training and development so that we can create a team of enthusiastic and committed young drivers to drive the business and the industry forward.”
Open to both new and existing staff, the Warehouse to Wheels initiative includes a year-long apprenticeship to become a qualified Class 2 LGV driver. Designed by the LGV driving industry and delivered by national training provider Seetec, the scheme aims to attract young drivers and support them to gain their LGV licence along with the necessary practical, technical and legal knowledge to succeed in the industry.
