Dematic, the automated intralogistics solutions company, has published a white paper, ‘The Great Grocery Retailing Fulfilment Challenge’, highlighting the dramatic changes taking place in the grocery market and examining their impact on retailers’ cost-to-serve and the challenges facing their logistics processes.
The report says: “There are a number of emerging trends within the European food and grocery markets that have the potential to significantly disrupt the food distribution chain. These trends include the rise of e-retailing, in both home delivery and ‘click and collect’ models; a shift by consumers from weekly or monthly ‘big shops’ at out of town megastores to smaller but more frequent use of local ‘convenience’ stores, and in the UK the rise of ‘discounters’ such as Aldi and Lidl.”
