Rhenus Celebrates the Inauguration of New Eindhoven Logistics Centre.

Rhenus Contract Logistics Eindhoven celebrated a major success in the construction of its new logistics centre with a ceremony to mark the reaching of the highest point of the building on 21 September. The facility in the Ekkersrijt industrial estate in Son en Breugel in the Eindhoven region, whose construction will be completed in two sections, will after completion in February 2017 provide 50,000 square meters of storage space. An additional 35,000 square metres will be added during a later phase.

In a symbolic act, Michael Brockhaus, member of Board of Directors Rhenus Group, and Alphons Van Erven, senior vice president of Rhenus Contract Logistics in the Netherlands, placed a roof beam on the building in the presence of Robert Visser, Alderman of the municipality of Son en Breugel. In the Netherlands, what is called “reaching the highest point” marks the successful completion of this phase of construction and is traditionally observed by a ceremony similar to a topping-out celebration.

Rhenus Contract Logistics Eindhoven already has a logistics centre with 60,000 square metres of warehouse space in the eastern part of the Ekkersrijt industrial park, which, like the new facility, was designed by logistics real estate developer DOKVAST. Given the continuous growth, particularly in respect of medical products and media logistics, which has led to a doubling of Rhenus Contract Logistics business in the Netherlands in the past five years, the new building was sited in the immediate vicinity. Sustainability is an important criterion in the design in order to ensure energy- and cost-efficient operations after completion.

Within Europe, Rhenus Warehousing Solutions, the specialist unit for contract logistics within the Rhenus Group, has recently added 200,000 square metres of warehouse space - including branches in the German cities of Hamburg and Frankfurt. In the fourth quarter of 2016, 40,000 square metres at the Bolesławiec site near the German and Czech borders in Poland have added still more warehouse capacity to meet our customers’ needs.
