Latest vehicle fleet investment is part of Walker’s plan to grow transport business.

Berkshire-based supply chain solutions specialist, Walker Logistics, has added three Isuzu 7.5 tonne rigid lorries to its vehicle fleet.

The vehicles will be dedicated to delivering food and drink to farmers’ markets and high-end food halls, such as Fortnum & Mason, on behalf of Walker’s client Cotswold Fayre and all three units are liveried with Cotswold Fayre’s logo.

Some 1000 pallet loads of Cotswold Fayre’s branded foodstuffs and beverages are stored in Walker’s multi-user, food grade facility close to the M4 for delivery throughout the UK.

Walker process some 75 – 100 orders a day for the company and each comprises around 30 cartons, which are either palletized or put in to roll cages, depending on the demands of the retail outlet for which they are destined.

Plans are well advanced for Cotswold Fayre’s Christmas sales spike – which will involve a 30 per cent increase in throughput.

To ensure that its clients products are distributed in the most environmentally-friendly and cost efficient way possible, Walker has recently upgraded its route planning software and appointed Justin Wood to the position Transport Manager.

Justin Wood said:

“Like all logistics companies our main challenges are ensuring that our vehicles are running as close to capacity as possible every day and also there are as few empty return journeys as possible and we are always seeking opportunities to collaborate with other businesses to maximize backhaul efficiency,” he says.

William Walker, sales director of Walker Logistics, commented:

“Walker has always offered a full storage and distribution service with extensive knowledge of product movement from our freight heritage and as the company grows we are looking to make sure the investment in new vehicles, planning software and dedicated staff in that area continues so we are well placed to offer complete supply chain solutions.”
